Top Cycle Routes for UK Breaks

10th June 2019

Cycling

Cycling is one of the best ways to enjoy the stunning scenery surrounding our UK resorts and the national parks they're within.  An activity that's suitable for all ages, you can choose anything from a gentle coastal ride through to a more challenging MTB trail through the woods!

In celebration of National Bike Week 2019 (8th - 16 June) we've pulled together a list of our favourite cycle routes located near our resorts here in the UK.

Macdonald Forest Hills Resort

We have two favourites near Forest Hills. For families we recommend the nearby Loch Ard Loop, a gentle 3.5 mile circuit taking in the loch and surrounding forest. If you're looking for something a little more challenging then try the Aberfoyle to Callander route (National Route 7) which includes some tricky ascents but rewarding views and exhilarating descents through it's 13 mile route!

Macdonald Spey Valley Resort & Lochanhully Resort

Both located in the wonderful Cairngorms National Park there's an abundance of fabulous cycle routes to choose from. You can join the Speyside Way from the centre of Aviemore and take the first of 8 sections that lead all the way to Spey Bay. Cycling with family? Head to nearby Glenmore Forest for a wide choice of routes suitable for all. There's also a number of MTB trails in and around Aviemore for those looking for a more adrenaline fueled day out on two wheels!

Macdonald Plas Talgarth Resort

Did you know that Wales is the only country in the world with a continuous path around its entire coast? The Wales Coast Path is a staggering 870 miles long from north to south but don't panic we're not expecting our guests to navigate the whole coast! Luckily for you the path actually runs right though our estate at Macdonald Plas Talgarth Resort so you can join at your leisure and take in the north or south route for as long or short ride as you like.

Macdonald Elmers Court Resort

The village of Lymington, just a short walk/cycle from the resort, lies on the Solent Way. This 60 mile footpath along the Hampshire coast links Milford on Sea with Emsworth Harbour. Not only will you be cycling through the southern edge of the New Forest you'll also enjoy views of the beautiful Isle of Wight, just a few miles off the Hampshire Coast.
